Equities
In March the trading volume on the Spanish market through SIBE amounted to €60.66 bn, which represents a 5.7% increase from the previous month. The trading volume to the end of March totalled €184.61 bn.
During this month the number of transactions came in at 2.8 million, up 26.8% from the previous month and up 2.3% from the same month a year earlier. The number of trades to the end of March totalled 7.5 million.
The number of shares traded in March was 9.72 bn, up 26.3% from February and up 24.6% from the same month in 2008.
The number of trades on the ETF segment in March was up 118% from the same month a year earlier. In the first three months of the year the number of trades was up 53.3% from the same period in 2008. The trading volume on this segment in March came in at €171 million and in the first three months of the year it totalled €604 million.
Futures and Options
In March trading on MEFF, BME’s Derivatives Market, came in at 10.5 million contracts, up 33% from the same a year earlier.
Highlights include Options on Stocks, with 3.8 million contracts traded, up 170% from the same period a year earlier.
The trading volume on this market for the first three months of the year was a record high, at 24.3 million contracts, up 40% from the same period in 2008. Highlights include Options on Stocks, up 113% from a year earlier, at 8.1 million contracts, and Futures on Stocks, up 53% from a year earlier, at 13 million contracts.
Warrants and Certificates
The number of warrants issued to the end of March totalled 2,448.Trading volumes in March on the warrants and certificates market came in at €172.9 million, up 13.3% from the previous month. The number of trades was 36,039, up 21.5% from the previous month.
Corporate Debt
Corporate Debt trading on the Debt Market to the end of March totalled €994.44 bn, triple that posted in the same period in 2008 (+199.5%). In March, the trading volume was €341.69 bn, up 189.4% from the same month a year earlier.
New issues in the first three months of the year totalled €127.01 bn, up 4.3% from the same period in 2008. New issues in March were €47 bn, up 26.6% from March 2008.
The outstanding balance of Corporate Debt at the end of March was €851.85 bn, up 10.3% from the same period a year earlier.
