Trading Volumes On The Spanish Exchange Hit A New Record - Trading On AIAF And Latibex Also Hit New Records

  • In January trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE reached € 75.58 bn, 24.5% up on the same month in 2004.
  • Trading volume in IBEX 35 futures was 400,796 contracts in January, 17% up on the same month last year.
  • Trading volume in Corporate Debt on AIAF was € 72.52 bn, 114.7% up on the same month in 2004 and a new record high.
  • Trading on the Latibex market exceeded 36 million euros in January, the highest trading volume reached on this market.

Equities

In January trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE amounted to € 75.58, which represents a year on year increase at 24.5% and the highest monthly figure in the history of the stock exchange.

Daily trading volume in January was € 3.8 bn. During this month the number of transactions exceeded 1.3 million, up 14.5% on the previous month and 5.6% up on January 2004.

Trading on the Latibex market, the market in euros for Latin American companies, exceeded € 36 million, which represents a 26% increase from the same month in 2004 and a new record high on this market.

The return on the IBEX 35 index in January was 1.58 % and that on the IBEX 35 with dividends was 2.09%. The return on the FTSE Latibex index in January was 3.52%.

Warrants and Certificates

Trading volumes in January 2005 on the warrants and certificates market came in at € 167 million, which represents a 16% increase over the same month in 2004 and 7.8% on the previous month.

Futures and options

Futures and options trading traded through MEFF in January 2005 came in at 1.668 million contracts, 7% up on January 2004. It is worth mentioning the trading volume in Ibex 35 Futures, which was 400,796 contracts, and the 17% increase this represented in relation to January of 2004. In January 2005 trading volume in IBEX Futures hit a new record in the number of open positions at the end of the month, posting 73,876 contracts.

Corporate Debt

Corporate Debt trading on AIAF in January reached € 72.52 bn, a 114.7 % increase compared to the same period last year and a new record high on this market.

New issues in January came in at € 32.06 bn, 34% up on the same month in 2004.

The outstanding balance at the end of January was € 315.62 bn, 54.4% up on the same period in 2004.

SENAF Trading volume on SENAF in January was € 28.11 bn, thus beginning the year with a 29.3 % increase on the same month in 2004.
