The number of shares traded in June, 10.39 billion, increased by 16.9% from the same month a year earlier and is the highest monthly figure so far this year.

- Record high in MINI IBEX 35 Futures in the second quarter, at 888,285 contracts.
- Corporate Debt trading exceeded €2 trillion in the first half.
Equities
The number of shares traded on the Spanish exchange in June totalled 10.39 billion, up 10.8% from the previous month and up 16.9% from the same month a year earlier. The figure represents the highest monthly figure so far this year. The number of shares traded during the first six months of the year totalled 55.91 billion, just 0.6% down from the same period in 2008.
The number of trades in equities on the Spanish exchange in June came in at 2.6 million, up 5.2% from the previous month and down 11.8% from the same month in 2008. The number of equity trades to the end of June reached 15.12 million, down 17.8% from the same period in 2008.
Equity trading volume in June came in at €86.16 billion, up 13.7% from the previous month. It is the highest monthly figure so far in 2009. The trading volume for the first six months of the year totalled €421.31bn, down 39.9% from that posted in the same period in 2008.
In the second quarter, the number of trades, 7.7 million and the value of trading, €236.69 billion, represent increments of 2.5% and 28.2% respectively as compared with the first quarter.
The number of trades on the ETF segment in June was up 105% from the same month a year earlier. In the first six months of the year the number of trades was up 85% from the same period in 2008. The trading volume on this segment in June came in at €480.45 million and in the six months of the year it totalled €1.51 billion.
Futures and Options
Trading on BME’S Derivatives Market in June reached 13.5 million contracts, up 22% year on year. The figure represents a monthly record high.
Highlights include Stock Futures, which reported a monthly record high, at 8.3 million contracts traded, up 13% from the same period a year earlier and Options on Stocks, with 3.9 million contracts traded, up 85% from a year earlier. On June 19th a new daily record high in trading was reached, as 1,367,722 contracts were traded in a single trading session. The market reached another record high in MINI IBEX 35 Futures in the second quarter, at 888,285 contracts.
The trading volume on this market up to the end of June also reached a record high, with 50.1 million contracts traded, up 23% from the same period in 2008. Highlights include Stock Futures, up 18% from a year earlier, at 27.4 million contracts and Options on Stocks, up 96% from a year earlier, at 16 million contracts.
Warrants and Certificates
The number of warrants admitted to trading between January and June 2009 totalled 3,578.
In June the trading volume on the warrants and certificates market reached €160.3 million, up 0.75% from the previous month and the number of trades came in at 29,448, down 2.4% from the previous month.
Activity on this segment to the end of June reached €996 million, down 37.3% from the same period a year earlier while the number of trades was 195,111, down 35.4% from the same period in 2008.
Corporate Debt
Corporate Debt trading in the first half broke the €2 trillion barrier, at €2.11 trillion, a two-fold increase (132%) from the same period a year ago. The trading volume in June reached a record high, with a monthly figure of €404.35 billion, a 97.7% from the same month a year earlier.
New issues in June came in at €42.43bn, down 3% from the same month a year earlier. New issues from January to June totalled €239.15billion, down 5.6% from a year earlier.
The outstanding balance on the private fixed income market at the end of June was €874.64bn, up 8.1% from a year earlier.
