Trading Volume On The Spanish Exchange Reached €70.79 Bn In August , Up 32% Year On Year - Monthly Trading Statements For BME Markets - The Best Month Of August By Trading Volume In The Last Four Years

Equities

In August trading in Equities on the Spanish Stock Exchange amounted to €70.79 billion, up 32% compared to the same period in 2010 and the best month of August in the last four years in terms of trading volume. In the first eight months of the year the trading volume totalled €660.29 billion, in line with the figure posted for the same period in 2010.

The number of trades in August came in at 4.4 million, up 82% year-on-year. In the first eight months of the year, the number of trades totalled 32 million, up 21% year on year.

In August, the trading volume in the ETF segment was €272 million, down 1% year on year, while the trading volume in the first eight months of the year totalled €2.26 billion.

The number of trades on the ETF segment in August totalled 4,520, up 11% from the same period last year. In the first eight months of the year the number of ETF trades totalled 30,144, down 38% year on year.

Futures and Options

In August trading on BME’s Derivatives Market came in at 2.84 million contracts while the trading volume in the first eight months totalled 42.43 million contracts, slightly exceeding the volume posted in the same period last year (42.21 million).

The segment showing the highest activity level was Index Futures, at 980,552 contracts, the highest trading volume so far this year and up 61.5% on August 2010. Trading in Index Options in August came in at 176,111 contracts, up 38% from last year.

 Warrants and Certificates

The volume of warrants admitted to trading so far this year was 5,588.

In August the trading volume came in at €194.1 million, up 44% year on year. Trading volume to the end of August on the warrants and certificates market totalled €1.09 billion, down 2.4% from the same period last year

In August 29,137 trades were executed, up 26% year on year. The number of trades to the end of August reached 201,877, down 18% from the same period in 2010.

Corporate Debt

Corporate Debt trading in August reached €472.99 billion, up 53.3% year on year. The trading volume for the first eight months of the year totalled €3.89 trillion, up 111.4% on the same period last year.

New issues in August totalled €14.37 billion, down 43.2% from the same month last year. In the first eight months of the year they totalled €165.42 billion, up 2.41% from the same period in 2010. The outstanding balance of Corporate Debt at the end of August was down 1.2% from the same period a year earlier, at €851.05 billion.

The trading volume on BME’s Public Debt market in August came in at €4.32 billion, down 85.6% from the same period a year earlier, while in the first eight months of the year on-maturity trading volume was up 16.9% year on year.
