Trading Volume On The BME Markets Reached €138.25 Bn, 52.3% Up On The Year

Equities

In May trading in equities on the Spanish market through SIBE amounted to € 138.25 bn, which represents a year on year increase of 52.3%. The number of trades was 2.60 million, 19.5% up on the same month the previous year.

The accumulated trading volume posted since January has come in at € 678.92 bn, 54.8% up on 2006. The number of trades increased by 48% during the same period.

Trading on the Latibex market in May exceeded by 18.8% that posted in May 2006, setting a new monthly record since the creation of the market. The trading volume on the Latibex market to May was 10.9% up on 2006.

As to the ETFs segment, the value of trading on this market came in at € 274 million, 7% up on the previous month.

Warrants and Certificates

Trading volume in May 2007 on the warrants and certificates market came in at € 476 million, which represents a 43.7% increase over the same month in 2006 and a monthly record since the creation of this market. The number of trades was 69,446, which represents a 43% increase on the same month in 2006.

The accumulated figure up to May was € 2.04 bn, 61.2% up on 2006 and the number of trades during the same period was 59.7% up on the year.

Futures and Options

In May Futures and Options trading through MEFF came in at 2,607,501 contracts. It is worth noting the heavy trading activity posted by Stock Futures, at 390,789 contracts and Mini IBEX 35 Futures, at 234,280 contracts, up 32% and 30% on May 2006 respectively.

MEFF’s accumulated trading volume for the first five months of the year was 15.9 million contracts. Highlights include IBEX 35 Futures, MEFF’s flagship product, at 3.5 million contracts and a 37% year on year increase and Mini IBEX 35 Futures, at 1.1 million contracts and a 72% annual increase.

Corporate Debt

Corporate Debt trading on AIAF in May reached € 93.75 bn, posting a 18.6% increase on the same period last year and leaving an accumulated trading volume up to May of € 451.97 bn, 29.4% up on the same period 2006.

New issues in May came in at € 57.01 bn, 94.1% up on the year. New issues to June reached € 278.91bn, 41.7% up on the same period 2006.

The outstanding balance at the end of May was € 673.90 bn, up 36.3% on the year. Net financing in 2006 increased to € 84.96 bn, 63.8% up on the year.

SENAF

Trading volume on SENAF in May was € 10.14 bn, which represents a market share of 70.63% of the Spanish electronic trading platforms.
