Main Market
The value of session trading was PLN 19.3 billion, an increase of 23.7% year on year. The average daily value of trading increased by 29.6% year on year. The value of trading in January – July was over PLN 147 billion, an increase of 27.8% year on year.
In July, VTB Capital plc. and BNP Paribas Arbitrage SNC became Exchange Members. The WSE now has 28 domestic members and 27 foreign members in 13 countries.
The WIG index gained 11% year on year and lost 0.71% year to date at the end of July 2011.
NewConnect
The value of session trading was PLN 110.6 million, an increase of 27.5% year on year. The incremental value of trading in January – July was over PLN 1.3 billion, an increase of 71.9% year on year.
The NCIndex lost 7.5% year on year and 18.3% year to date at the end of July 2011.
Derivative instruments
Futures contracts: The volume of trading in index futures was 0.8 million contracts in July 2011 as compared to 0.9 million in July 2010. The monthly volume of trading in share futures was 56.1 thousand, growing by 134.7% year on year and by 105.3% year to date. The volume of trading in share futures in January – July 2011 (407.9 thousand) was greater than in all of 2010 (375.5 thousand).
In July, the volume of trading in fx futures on the WSE increased. The volume of trading in these instruments almost tripled year on year and reached 26.6 thousand. The incremental volume year to date grew by 31.6% and reached 95.4 thousand contracts.
Options: Similar to share futures, the volume of trading in options continued to grow dynamically year on year. The volume of trading grew by 209.8% year on year; the volume in January – July grew by 60.1% year on year and totalled 586.2 thousand options.
Structured products, investment certificates and ETF
ETF: The value of trading in ETFs was PLN 29.5 million in July 2011 and PLN 167.4 million year to date.
Structured products and investment certificates: The value of trading in investment certificates and structured products was PLN 28.3 million (structured products: PLN 16 million; investment certificates: PLN 12.4 million). Trading in structured products in January – July decreased by 11.7% and trading in certificates grew by 49.9% year on year.
In July, 27 new structured certificates were introduced to trading and trading in warrants on the WSE was resumed: 90 warrants based on WSE indices and shares of Polish companies are available on the WSE since 21 July.
Fixed-income instruments
Catalyst
The value of session trading was PLN 154.8 million in July 2011 and PLN 735.8 million in January – July 2011, as compared to PLN 159.8 million in July 2010 and PLN 825 million in January – July 2010. The value of listed bond issues (corporate, municipal and mortgage bonds) was PLN 34.2 billion at the end of July 2011, up by 70.2% year on year.
Treasury BondSpot Poland
The value of trading on Treasury BondSpot Poland continued to grow very dynamically. The value of cash transactions in July 2011 grew by 115.1% year on year while the value of conditional transactions increased from PLN 15.5 billion to PLN 68.9 billion (up by 345.7%). The incremental value of cash transactions was PLN 162.9 billion in January – July 2011 (up by 140% year on year) and the value of conditional transactions was PLN 482.2 billion (up by 580.3%).
The WSE held 21 trading sessions in July 2011, one less than in July 2010.
