Toronto Stock Exchange Hearing Panel Approves Offers Of Settlement
Date 20/07/2000
A settlement was approved today, in a public hearing, between The Toronto Stock Exchange Inc. and 12 traders at 10 brokerage firms charged with violations of the Exchange's rules relating to high closing. These settlements bring to a close the TSE / OSC joint year-long investigation into activities that took place between the
accused traders and RT Capital Corp. Penalties levied by the TSE reflect the individuals' failure to act as industry gatekeepers. In this role, traders are held accountable
for the prevention of actions that violate Exchange rules that result in damage to the quality of market integrity. The TSE continually monitors the market and investigates any activity that could impact market quality and security for investors.
