Date 30/05/2012

Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange yesterday hosted their first Life Sciences Finance event in Toronto in conjunction with the annual BioFinance conference.

The event was held in partnership with BIOTECanada, a national non-profit association dedicated to building the bio-economy in Canada. It introduced executives from emerging biotechnology and life sciences companies to leading Canadian public markets advisors through a series of one-on-one meetings. The event also provided an overview of the various options available for accessing public growth capital in Canada.

“The Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange Life Sciences Finance event was held to assist emerging life sciences companies by facilitating capital markets introductions and raising awareness of the various go-public strategies available to them in Canada,” said Kevan Cowan, President, TSX Markets and Group Head of Equities. “We look forward to continuing to work with companies in this sector and to raising awareness about the innovative options available to them on both Exchanges.”

"We are very pleased to not only have launched a successful educational event, but also a platform to facilitate introductions among some of the leading emerging life sciences companies and capital markets experts in Canada today," said Gibril Muddei, Director, Industrial Biotechnology, BIOTECanada.

As of April 30, 2012, there were 117 life sciences companies listed on Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange with a combined market capitalization of $24.1 billion. Total financings for the year total $153.7 million.
