The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) President, Mr. Kittiratt Na- Ranong, disclosed that SET securities trading in October recorded a total market turnover of 7,759.80 million shares in volume and 68,003.54 million baht in value, decreased by 41,946.93 million baht from September or 38.15%. The SET Index closed on October 31 at 275.09, down by 1.95 points or 0.70 % from the previous month.

For MAI securities trading in October, total three securities recorded a total market turnover of 365.49 million baht in value and 65.87 million shares in volume.

"One factor causing the October trading value slimmer than the September value is the concern over the war against terrorism between the United States and Afghanistan, which psychologically affects the investment in the global securities markets. As the world economy is in a slow-down period, they are hence reluctant to invest and monitor closely to the situation. Moreover, the Parliament has already passed a draft of Telecommunication Bill that forces foreign stake holders to decrease their holding, hence keep selling off the shares. This directly affects the securities in the Telecommunication Sector. All these factors have created the domino effect on investors' confidence to the Thai capital market." Mr. Kittiratt said.
