Top Issuers Selected At 2010 ETF Awards - Boerse Stuttgart And Extra Magazine Host Awards And Information Evening For Retail Investors Interested In Exchange-Traded Funds

Date 22/10/2010

As the market in exchange-traded funds (ETFs) continues to expand, Boerse Stuttgart is able to report a year-on-year increase in turnover of over 50 percent in the first three quarters of 2010, with trading in the segment reaching around EUR 3.9 billion. “It is clear from the growth rates in ETF trading that private investors are also investing more heavily in the segment,” observed Michael Görgens, Head of Investment Fund and ETF Trading at Boerse Stuttgart. As a clear sign of the demand from investors for more information about exchange-traded funds, around 250 guests attended the event hosted yesterday evening by Boerse Stuttgart.

The 2010 ETF Awards, organised by Boerse Stuttgart and EXtra Magazine, were presented in the afternoon. For the second year in a row, the jury’s eagerly awaited choice of Best ETF provider was db x-trackers, the ETF brand of Deutsche Bank. Overall, db x-trackers achieved the highest number of points across all five categories and also won in the two individual categories Website and Innovation. It was iShares that came out on top in the categories Service and Product range, while ComStage led the field in Cost structure.

The 2010 award for ETF of the Year went to iShares’ JP Morgan USD Emerging Markets Bond. An independent jury rated products licensed for sale in Germany from the top thirteen issuers of exchange-traded funds. With thirty-two experts from banks, asset managers, market makers, the media and other service providers in the ETF sector, the jury was even more representative than last year.

The information evening at Stuttgart Stock Exchange was rounded off by a podium discussion and exhibition. “ETFs are tremendously popular among private investors, and I’m delighted by the level of interest shown in our event yesterday,” said Michael Görgens. Customers have also responded very favourably to the launch of Boerse Stuttgart’s ETF Bestx trading segment well over a year ago. Out of more than 700 ETFs admitted for trading on the exchange, over half are now listed in the quality segment ETF Bestx.
