Tokyo Stock Exchange Updates Detail Contents Of Co-Location Service At TSE Primary Site

Tokyo, October 7, 2009 - In order to further enhance market convenience for investors and Trading Participants, Tokyo Stock Exchange, Inc. (TSE) initiated to provide "Co-Location Service" at TSE Primary Site in May 2009. Since then, TSE has updated detail contents of Co-Location Service.

1. Outline of Co-Location Service at Primary Site

Operation For the purpose of security, in principle, entrance into the TSE Primary Site by Users is prohibited.
In the case of an emergency, TSE staff will conduct emergency measures such as powering on/off and checking indicators.
Introduction and Maintenance Users will select their own installation and maintenance vendor(s) and register them in advance. Only registered vendors can perform installation and maintenance.
TSE staff will be in attendance throughout installation and maintenance.
A set amount of tickets for entrance will be provided each month for the purpose of maintenance and audits (an extra entrance fee will be charged in the case of exceeding 10 times or 10 hours per rack per month).
Service Desk A 24 hour Service Desk is available 365 days a year.
External Connection Connection between Co-Location Area and user site outside of Co-Location Area will be available via Access Point.
Ethernet dedicated line and other types of lines will be available.

*Contents of Co-Location Service have been updated to accommodate user demands and convenience, including change in usage method of maintenance/introduction vendors, provision of more types of bandwidths of lines.

2. Pricing

(1) Co-Location Service Charges

3. Application and Others

  • A User has been able to apply for Co-Location Service since January 2009 and may start installation of its devices at Co-Location Area at TSE Primary Site after completing the required procedures.
  • Any Trading Participant who is interested in this Service may contact Co-Location Service Promotion Group, IT Business, Tokyo Stock Exchange, Inc, to obtain "Welcome Pack for TSE Co-Location Service", which has been distributed since December 26, 2008.
  • As for order line with Cash Equities including equity, CB, ETF and REIT will be available from the launch date of arrowhead (January 4, 2010).

"Co-Location" is a service that minimizes the latency between Trading Participants' and other market users' devices like automated order placement servers and systems of trading venues such as exchanges, by allowing market users to install their devices at data centers and/or network access points of trading venues to minimize the physical distance between data centers and/or network access points and market users' devices.

"Tdex+" is the nickname of the TSE's new options trading platform, which was launched on October 5, 2009 to strengthen system functions and enhance the liquidity of the TSE options market. All option products listed on the TSE such as securities options, index options, and options on Japanese Government Bond (JGB) futures are traded on the Tdex+.

"arrowhead" is the nickname of the next generation trading system, which has been developed and is planned to be launched on January 4, 2010 with faster response time, greater reliability, and more flexible expandability.

"arrownet" is the nickname of the new integrated network, which utilizes state-of-the-art technology to support the Tdex+ and arrowhead platforms. arrownet is a robust network, achieving extraordinarily fast and high volume data communication and enabling operations to continue at TSE back-up site in case of disaster. Furthermore, the TSE believes that this arrownet offers greater expandability and flexibility regarding inter-networking with overseas institutions.
