Tokyo Stock Exchange: Trading Conditions (Outlook & Initial Figures) June 2010

Highlights

(1) Equity Market

  • [Equities]

    -With TOPIX reaching a record low for the year at the end of the month, the average daily value for June fell 30% versus May.

    -Trading value for the first half of 2010 (Jan-Jun) was JPY192 trillion, a 5% gain on JPY183 trillion for the latter half of 2009(July-Dec).

  • [ETF]

    -Trading value for the first half of 2010 was JPY1.0664 trillion, an 18% gain on JPY0.900 trillion for the latter half of 2009(July-Dec).

    -4 precious metal commodity ETFs are scheduled for listing on July 2nd, bringing the total number of listed issues to 92.

  • [REIT]

    -Trading value remained virtually unchanged from May.

    -Trading value for the first half of 2010 was JPY1.1854 trillion, a 4% gain on JPY1.1388 trillion for the latter half of 2009(July-Dec).

(2) Derivatives Market

  • [Index Futures]

    -Trading volume for the first half of 2010 (Jan-Jun) was 668,271 contracts (daily average: 5,523 contracts), 4.5 times that of the first half of 2009 (143,544 contracts, daily average: 1,196 contracts)

    -The trading volume for the TOPIX futures evening session on June 10 was 12,229, a record level since the start of trading.

  • [JGB Futures]

    -Trading volume and value for June 2010 reached their highest levels since September 2008 (Volume: 795,269 contracts, Value: JPY 111.9127 trillion)

    -Trading volume for the first half of 2010 was 3,656,067 contracts , a 13.7% gain that of the same period of 2009. Trading value reached JPY510.58179603 trillion, a 15.2% gain on the same period in 2009. Trading volume for the evening session was 284,624 contracts, a 43.7% gain on the same period in 2009.

  • [TOPIX Options]

    -Total trading volume for the first half of 2010 (79,759 contracts) was 4.2 times that of the same period in 2009 (19,180 contracts)
