Tokyo Stock Exchange Trading Conditions (Outlook & Initial Figures) February 2011

This report contains trading conditions of the Tokyo Stock Exchange for February 2011.

1. Highlights

  1.  Equity Market

  2. [Equities]
    -TOPIX rose 4.5% on the back of positive business performance, making gains for the 4th consecutive month. Daily average trading value rose 12% over the previous month with market movements on news of large-scale mergers and unrest in the Middle East, reaching its highest point since May 2010.

    [ETF]
    -With large moves in stock price indices, trading value rose 20% over the previous month.

    [REIT]
    -The REIT index posted losses for the 2nd consecutive month amidst a lack of relevant news.

  3.  Derivatives Market

  4. -End of month Open Interest for TOPIX Futures was 423,194 contracts, breaking the 400,000 level for the first time in 3 months.

     

    -Monthly trading volume for Nikkei 225 Dividend Index Futures was 12,700 contracts (daily average: 668 contracts) and end of month Open Interest was 19,720 contracts, both reaching new record highs since the start of trading.
