Tokyo Stock Exchange: To All Investors And Concerned Parties (Regarding Handling Of Equities And Other Securities From Tomorrow)

Date 18/01/2006

Because there was a possibility that the number of orders and executions received would exceed the amount able to be processed by the system, Tokyo Stock Exchange today temporarily suspended trading of all equity, convertible bond, and exchange bond issues during the afternoon session. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to all investors and concerned parties.

Management of trading for the foreseeable future will be conducted as below beginning tomorrow:

1. Request for order consolidation
We request that investors and concerned parties consolidate orders - including program orders - as much as possible when placing them at TSE.

2. Delay of opening of afternoon trading session
For the foreseeable future, the afternoon trading session will begin at 1:00 p.m. However, the time at which orders will start to be taken (12:05 p.m.), and the closing time of the session (3:00 p.m.) will not be changed.

ToSTNeT transactions will be conducted as normal.

3. Method of response when there is a sharp increase in orders and executions
Should the number of orders exceed 8,500,000 or the number of executions exceed 4,000,000, interference with the continuity of system processing may occur. In this case, after issuing a notification, TSE will temporarily suspend trading of all equity, convertible bond, and exchange bond issues.

Also, the base price used to determine tomorrow's daily price limit (January 19) will be the last price nearest the time at which today's trading was suspended (in the case a special quotation is displayed, the relevant special quotation price).

We at the Tokyo Stock Exchange are determined to continue our efforts in increasing the capacity of our system in the future. We ask for your kind support in this endeavor.
