TSE has compiled the statistics on dates of Annual General Shareholders Meetings for companies which settle accounts in March 2012. A summary of the statistics is as below.
Summary
Every year, the highest concentration of annual general shareholders meetings of companies which settle accounts in March occurs on "the business day before the last business day of June" (If this day falls on Monday, this occurs on the Friday of the previous week). This year, 709 (41.6%) out of 1,705 companies included in the statistics are scheduled to hold their annual general shareholders meetings on Jun. 28 (Thu.) which is "the business day before the last business day of June".
-The rate of concentration on such day has risen 0.4 points year-on-year, continuing to be at the 41% level. Thus, there has been no large change in the trend of meeting date decentralization(the highest rate of concentration on record is 96.2% for Mar. 1995).
-The earliest annual general shareholders meeting was May 29 for Scroll Corporation (1st Section, account settlement on Mar. 31), followed by TRUSCO NAKAYAMA CORPORATION (1st Section, account settlement on Mar. 31) on Jun. 08 (1 other company, YASKAWA INFORMATION SYSTEMS Corporation, held the meeting on Jun. 08 with account settlement on Mar. 20).
In order to create an environment which further facilitates the exercise of voting rights at annual general shareholders meetings, TSE requests listed companies to make efforts to spread out their annual general shareholders meetings (Rule 437, Item 1 of the Enforcement Rules for Securities Listing Regulations). TSE will continue to encourage listed companies to cooperate in further improving the environment for exercising voting rights, including spreading out their annual general shareholders meetings.
