Tokyo Stock Exchange: Launching A “New Products Planning Project”

Date 09/04/2007

Under the positive environment being prepared for listing of a broad range of financial products thanks to the enactment of the Financial Instruments and Exchange Law, Tokyo Stock Exchange, Inc. (TSE) has launched an in-house cross-sectional “New Products Planning Project” in order to speedily and proactively work on developing and listing new products based on the recently adopted “New Medium Term Management Plan.”

In this project the TSE will collect information regarding products listed on overseas exchanges, particularly based on its strategic alliance with NYSE Group, Inc. in January 2007 and its co-operation agreement with the London Stock Exchange in February 2007 and, at the same time, design new products incorporating investors’ needs to a maximum extent, seeking cooperation from market players such as securities companies and product developers including asset management firms. In this way the TSE aims to list and provide new products such as commodity-related ETFs, foreign REITs, and derivatives to investors during fiscal 2007.

With this “New Products Planning Project” the TSE aims to establish itself as a core market in Asia by working aggressively on listing diversified new products that meet market users’ needs, as well as listing high quality companies with high investment attractiveness, and also expanding a range of existing listed products such as ETFs.
