In response to the recent growing interest in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Japan, Tokyo Stock Exchange, Inc. (TSE) announced today that it will embark on development of a new index, "TOPIX 1000 CSR," that incorporates elements of CSR.
TSE currently calculates and manages the "TOPIX 1000 FLOAT" customized index, which is composed of the 1,000 issues in the TSE First Section with the most liquidity and highest market capitalization. This autumn, however, TSE will newly incorporate CSR factors into this index, and change the name to "TOPIX 1000 CSR."
TSE is planning to collaborate with "The Good Bankers Co., Ltd." and "Mitsubishi UFJ Research & Consulting Co., Ltd.," two institutions with expertise in social investment research in Japan, in developing the index. Details such as the date of the name change will be announced when they are determined at a later date.
