Tokyo Stock Exchange: Change In Criteria For Size-based TOPIX Sub-Indices

Tokyo Stock Exchange, Inc. (TSE) announced today that TSE will change current criteria for Size-based TOPIX Sub-indices. The current criteria based on listed units of shares (Large-Sized Stocks, Medium-Sized Stocks, Small-Sized Stocks) will be replaced by market capitalization and liquidity based criteria as follows.

This change has been determined after a consultation period following an announcement by TSE on June 2, 2003 .

1.Change in Criteria

(New Criteria)

Large-Sized Stocks :	Component stocks in TOPIX 100 *
Medium-Sized Stocks :	Component stocks in TOPIX Mid 400 *
Small-Sized Stocks :	Component stocks in TOPIX Small *

TOPIX 100, TOPIX Mid 400 and TOPIX Small are indices in the TOPIX New Index Series and constituents are selected based on market capitalization and liquidity. For more information, please visit our website at the link below.

TOPIX new index series - Characteristics

(Current Criteria)

Large-Sized Stocks :	Listed shares of 200 million or more, or listed units of shares of 200 thousand or more
Medium-Sized Stocks :	Listed shares of 60 million or more but less than 200 million, or listed units of shares of 60 thousand or more but less than 200 thousand
Small-Sized Stocks :	Listed shares of less than 60 million, or listed units of shares of less than 60 thousand

Continuity of index value is maintained and index value will not be adjusted at the moment this change is effective as necessary adjustment of the base market value of each index will be conducted as usual.

2.Implementation Date

Implementation of the change is planned for April 2005, allowing time to understand and prepare for the change. The implementation date will be announced at a later time.

3.	Discontinuation of dissemination of Arithmetic Stock Price Average and Weighted Stock Price Average by Size of Shares Listed through TSE's Market Information System (MAINS)

In accordance with the change above, TSE will discontinue dissemination of arithmetic stock price average and weighted stock price average by size of shares listed through TSE's Market Information System (MAINS). The discontinuation is planned for April 2005 and the discontinuation date will be announced at a later time.
