Tokyo Stock Exchange: Cause Of Malfunction Of Stock/CB Trading System That Occurred On October 30 Regarding FAST RETAILING Stock, Countermeasures Taken, And Trading On November 2

Date 02/11/2009

A malfunction of the Stock/CB Trading System occurred on Friday, October 30 with regard to FAST RETAILING stock (code 9983). We deeply regret the inconveniences investors and other market-related parties may have experienced due to this incident.

The cause of the malfunction, the countermeasure taken, and the response to trading on November 2 are as follows

1. The cause of the malfunction and countermeasures taken

The cause of the system malfunction is attributed to the fact that at the closing of the afternoon trading session at 15:00, the system could not correctly recognize the number of orders which were designated for execution at the closing. We confirmed that this type of incident would occur only under very limited and specific conditions, and have implemented a solution that enables the system to recognize such orders even under these rare conditions.

2. Trading on November 2

Trading on November 2, 2009 is to be conducted normally, as we have identified the cause of the malfunction and taken the necessary actions to prevent a reoccurrence of this issue.

In addition, the base price of FAST RETAILING stock on November 2 is the last execution price (i.e. JPY 15,120) in the afternoon trading session on October 30 (*1).
