Tokyo Stock Exchange Announces Intent To Launch New "TOPIX-17 Series" Sector Indices

The Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) today announced its intent to launch a new group of sector indices - the ”TOPIX-17 Series.” The current 33 sector indices which are comprised of constituents of the TOPIX index will be consolidated into a group of 17 new indices.

As the ”TOPIX-17 Series” was developed based on the current 33 indices widely used for many years in the Japanese securities market, the 17 new indices are also expected to be utilized to analyze trends in specific industries and also as the underlying indices for financial products such as exchange traded funds in the future.

The TSE will begin calculating and publishing the “TOPIX-17 Series” on a real time basis through the TSE Market Information System (MAINS) beginning December 10, 2007.

(Note) The indices in the “TOPIX-17 Series” are calculated separately from the current 33 TOPIX Sector Indices. The TSE will continue to calculate the current 33 indices as until now.
