At Tokyo Commodity Exchange, Inc., the May 2011 rubber futures contract hit 396.4 yen per kilogram during today’s session. This is a new high of the back contract month, which is the most active contract at TOCOM, breaking the 30-year and 10-month record of 388.9 yen per kilogram set in February 13, 1980, when the contract reached its highest price since its listing on December 12, 1952 at the then Tokyo Rubber Exchange.
The price in TOCOM Rubber market acts as the world’s benchmark for natural rubber, and is referred daily by trading companies and producers especially in south-east Asia.
