The Tokyo Commodity Exchange, Inc, announced that its December 2013 Gold futures contract (most active/back contract month) temporarily reached 5,073 yen per gram during today’s session renewing the highest price recorded since the listing of gold futures contract at TOCOM on March 23, 1982 for the five consecutive trading days.
Prices of all other listed products also showed significant increases. December 2013 Platinum futures contract (most active/back contract month) increased to 5,232 yen per gram, the highest level since May 6, 2010 (33 months). Two energy contracts recorded 4-year-high respectively. Crude Oil reached 65,070 yen per kiloliter, highest since October 29, 2008 (52 months) and Gasoline advanced to 80,190 yen per kiloliter, highest since September 8, 2008 (53 months).
Such advancement in commodity prices, alongside other factors, activated trading on the TOCOM market totaling the daily volume 216,961 contracts, topping the 210,000 contract level for the first time since October 31, 2011 (15 months).
