TMX Group Travels To China To Promote Trading On Toronto Stock Exchange And TSX Venture Exchange

TMX Group CEO Thomas Kloet and Robert Fotheringham, Senior Vice President, Trading, TMX Group, are in Shanghai, China today to promote Canada’s capital markets to investors and to develop ties with the country’s regulators.

TMX Group is hosting the Capital Markets Summit on Global Canadian Resource Markets to educate investors interested in accessing the Canadian capital markets. Attendees will learn about the trading opportunities and practices that exist in Canadian markets. Guests will include representatives from banks, securities and investment firms and insurance companies.

The trip is a joint effort between the TMX Group’s listings and trading businesses, and includes a visit Beijing to meet with government officials, potential and current listed issuers, intermediaries and investors.

“We are eager to present all of the benefits of investing in Canada’s capital markets to the Chinese investment community,” said Thomas Kloet, CEO, TMX Group. “We are committed to further developing and enhancing our partnerships in China as we go forward.”

In addition to the TMX Group seminar, Mr. Kloet will attend the Halter Financial Summit on April 8, 2010 where he will be a guest speaker and panellist participant.

Chinese companies represent the second largest source of international listings on Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange. As of February 2010, there were 52 Chinese companies listed on TMX Group exchanges. In 2009, nine Chinese companies listed on Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange. Chinese companies raised more than $950 million through 21 financings in 2009.
