TMX Group Inc. today announced November 2010 trading statistics for its diversified group of exchanges - Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange, Montreal Exchange and Natural Gas Exchange (NGX).
Highlights
TSX Venture Exchange established new monthly records in volume and number of trades in November 2010. Monthly volume was 8,052,951,367, surpassing the previous record of 7,123,747,586 set in October 2010. The number of trades was 1,224,432 in November 2010, exceeding the earlier record of 976,439 set in March 2000. In addition, the Exchange established a number of daily records throughout the month. On a year-to-date basis, TSX Venture Exchange continues to far exceed 2009 trading levels.
November 2010 saw increases across all measures on Toronto Stock Exchange. Trading volume and transactions were up 22% and 15% respectively compared to October 2010. Volume increased by 24% in November 2010 compared to November 2009, and transactions increased by 20%. Year-to-date figures remain slightly lower in 2010 compared to 2009.
In November 2010, Montreal Exchange experienced a 31% increase in volume compared to October 2010 and a 34% increase compared to November 2009. Open interest was up slightly during the month. On a year-to-date basis, trading volume and open interest are up 27% and 12% respectively.
Trading volume on NGX increased by 5% in November 2010 compared to the previous month. Year-to-date, NGX continues to outperform 2009 volume levels.
