TMX Group Inc. today announced March 2010 consolidated trading statistics for its diversified group of exchanges – Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange, Montreal Exchange and Natural Gas Exchange (NGX).
Highlights
Trading volumes on Montreal Exchange were up significantly in March 2010; volume increased 21.7% compared to February 2010 and 25.6% compared to March 2009. On a year-to-date basis, open interest was up 27.4% in 2010 compared to the same period in 2009.
Trading volume and transactions on Toronto Stock Exchange were lower in March 2010 compared to March 2009 for both the month and the quarter. However, TSX Venture Exchange trading statistics continued to improve dramatically by all measures. On a year-to-date basis, volume was up 90.5%, value was up 300.0% and transactions were up 151.8% compared to the same period in 2009.
Natural gas volumes on NGX were slightly higher in March 2010 compared to February 2010 and slightly lower than March 2009. On a year-to-date basis, electricity volume was up 23.1% in 2010 compared to the first three months of 2009.
