TMX Group Inc. today announced July 2011 trading statistics for its diversified group of exchanges – Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange, Montreal Exchange (MX) and Natural Gas Exchange (NGX).
Highlights
Trading volume and transactions on Toronto Stock Exchange both increased during the first seven months of 2011 compared to the same period a year earlier. Volume was up by 6%, while the number of transactions increased by 5%. In July 2011, volume on the Exchange was down 2% compared to July 2010, and was down 23% compared to the previous month. Transactions fell 3% from June 2010 and 20% compared to June 2011.
TSX Venture Exchange continued to surpass 2010 levels in both transactions and volume, with increases of 115% and 35% year-to-date respectively. In July 2011, volume on the Exchange was up 9% over July 2010, though it decreased by 7% compared to June 2011. Transactions in July 2011 increased 115% compared to the same month last year, though fell slightly from June 2011.
On a year-to-date basis, volume and open interest contracts on MX were up 45% and 42% respectively. In July 2011, volume on the Exchange increased by 77% compared to the same month a year earlier, though volume was down 19% from June 2011. Open interest contracts, which were up 42% in July 2011 over July 2010, were down 3% compared to the previous month.
Volume on NGX was down 9% in July 2011 compared to June 2011 and was down 31% compared to July 2010. Year-to-date, volume on NGX was down 5% compared to the same period in 2010.
