The UK has published its negotiating objectives for a free trade agreement with the United States, with talks expected to begin this month.
Commenting on the documents, Miles Celic, Chief Executive Officer, TheCityUK, said,
The UK’s US negotiating objectives show a serious and long overdue ambition to raise the bar on global services trade.
“The US is already one of the most important export destinations for our industry, accounting for 26.4% of UK financial services exports and 28.4% of all UK professional services exports.
“As hosts to the world’s two leading financial services hubs, there is a long history of close policy and regulatory cooperation between the UK and US. A trade deal has the potential to supercharge this important strategic partnership.”
