The Warsaw Stock Exchange Starts Comprehensive Testing Of Its New Trading System

Date 21/09/2000

The NTS project is in its final stage. Work on the final version of the WARSET system shall be completed by the end of next week. Brokerage firms declare timely completion of their work concerning the adaptation of their internal IT systems to the WARSET.

Series of tests have been already run to check individual elements of the WARSET system. Now final tests covering all its future users: the Exchange, brokerage firms, the Polish Securities and Exchange Commission and the National Depository for Securities are necessary to check thoroughly and comprehensively the functioning of the new trading system as a whole.

Time needed to run final tests has been consulted with the French supplier of the system, who actively participates in the whole operation and provides necessary technical assistance to test the whole architecture of the system.

Introduction of the WARSET system is a comprehensive IT project on an unprecedented scale as the project deals with an extensive network connecting several dozen of capital markets institutions: the Exchange, the National Depository for Securities, and the Polish Securities and Exchange Commission and some 32 data vendors both those operating domestically and internationally. All these institutions had to adjust their internal IT systems to WARSET. This phase of the project is just being completed. Now it is time to test the functioning of the system as a whole network. Final tests involve complete trading session simulations.

Additionally in the period preceding the launch of the WARSET system - the Warsaw Stock Exchange in co-operation with brokerage firms will run an additional information campaign among the investors.

On September 18, 2000 based on the recommendation of the Warsaw Stock Exchange Management Board and following consultation with member firms, the WSE Supervisory Board decided on November 17, 2000 as the date on which quotations will start under the new system.
