The WSE anniversary coincided with the ceremony of the signing of the Treaty of Accession of the new member states to the European Union in Athens. The Warsaw Stock Exchange is the largest Exchange of the 10 candidate countries in terms of market capitalisation and the number of listed companies. Also, as far as market development is concerned, as measured by the index performance up-to-date from the first trading session, Warsaw ranks first. Already today, majority of Polish regulations and procedures correspond with the EU standards.
The Exchange prepares itself for the increasing competition; this includes widening of the product offer and increasing educational activities. Last year two new instruments made their exchange debut: MIDWIG futures and convertible bonds. In near future, the Exchange intends to introduce options on WIG20 index. These instruments will allow for more sophisticated strategies to be implemented. The Exchange plans to get more involved with the European integration process and find a strategic partner allowing good positioning on the European scene.
