Trading value in November increased significantly with average daily turnover reaching the highest value since November 1997, despite a contraction in turnover volume.
The average daily turnover for the 22 trading days in November was HK$10,882 million, an increase of 38 per cent compared with the previous month. Total turnover value for the month was HK$239,400 million compared with HK$149,497 in October.
A total of 140,772 million shares changed hands in November, compared with 127,560 million shares in October. The average daily turnover by volume was 6,399 million shares, down 5 per cent from October.
The total number of trades during the month was 2,534,472 which was 37 per cent more than in October.
Average daily turnover for the first eleven months of the year was HK$7,302 million, compared with HK$7,210 million in the same period last year. Total turnover by value was HK$1,650,293 million during the first eleven months of the year, compared with HK$1,622,308 million for the same period last year.
During the first eleven months of this year, the average daily turnover by volume was 5,320 million shares, compared with 3,418 million shares during the corresponding period of 1998. A total of 1,202,221 million shares were traded during the first eleven months of this year, compared with 768,971 million shares during the same period in 1998.
The market capitalisation at the end of November 1999 was HK$4,171,014 million compared with HK$2,750,431 million on the same date last year, an increase of HK$1,420,583 or 52 per cent.
The total number of listed companies was 700 on 30 November 1999 against 675 on 30 November 1998.
