The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong launches investor education programme on bond trading
Date 23/07/1999
The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong is embarking on an investor education programme to promote the understanding of retail bond trading.
It will launch a bond trading market on August 16, with Exchange Fund Notes as the inaugural listing. The findings of a recent investor survey indicated that the general public was interested in the bond market but had little knowledge of this type of investment.
In addition to 20 investor education seminars held from June until August, the Exchange will hold roadshows at large-scale shopping malls during the three consecutive weekends from tomorrow (Saturday).
Display panels featuring the features of debt securities investment, the tendering and trading procedures and transaction fees will be erected at the roadshows. Other activities will include investor games, video games and a lucky draw. Visitors to the Exchange roadshows will have a chance to win a board lot of Exchange Fund Notes and other valuable prizes.
"The Exchange hopes that retail investors will gain a better understanding of the bond market by taking part in these activities," an Exchange spokesman said.
