The Spanish Stock Exchange Traded €69.99 Billion In January

  • The number of equity trades in January reached 3.8 million, up 38% from the previous month of December
  • Trading in Options on Stocks reached 2.97 million contracts, slightly above the figure posted in January 2011
  • Corporate Debt trading reached €392.02 billion, down 31.5% year on year. However the number of trades increased more than fivefold compared to the same month in 2011.

Equities

The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange in January was €69.99 billion, down 29% from the same month a year earlier but up 18% from the figure posted in the previous month of December.

The number of trades in January reached 3.8 million, down 16% from the figure for January 2011 and up 38% from the previous month.

As for the ETF segment, the trading volume in January came in at €192 million, down 48% year on year. In January the number of trades reached 2,805, down 47% from the same month in 2011.

Futures and options

In January trading on BME’s Derivatives Market came in at 5.52 million contracts, down 12% from a year earlier.

The segment with heaviest trading was Options on Stocks, at 2.97 million contracts, a figure which is similar, although slightly higher, than that posted in the same month in 2011.

Warrants and Certificates

The number of warrants admitted to trading in January was 119. Activity on the market in January reached €87 million, down 43% from January 2011.

The number of trades in January in this market was 19,690, down 32% from a year earlier.

Corporate Debt

The trading volume on the Corporate Debt market in January came in at €392.02 billion, down 31.5% year on year. However the number of trades increased more than fivefold compared to the same month in 2011, at 285, 648.

New issues in January reached €29,469 billion, up 30.4% from the same period a year earlier. The outstanding balance at the end of January was €876.50 billion, up 2.4% from a year earlier.

In January trading on BME’s Public Debt electronic platform reached €4.78 billion, up 7.5% year on year. The number of trades reached 683, up 5.7% from a year earlier.
