Equities
The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange to the end of March totalled €162.12 billion, down 8.4% from the same period last year. The trading volume in March was €51.96 billion, up 22.5% from the previous month and down 15.2% year-on-year.
The number of trades to the end of March reached 10.1 million, down 10% from the same period last year while in March the number of trades came in at 3.3 million, down 16.7% from the same period a year earlier.
As for the ETF segment, the trading volume to the end of March totalled €773 million, up 70% from the same period last year. In March the trading volume came in at €210.5 million, up 71% from March 2012.
The number of trades in ETFs to the end of March totaled 15,357, up 70% from the same period in 2012. In March the number of trades reached 5,476, a 46% increase from March 2012.
Futures and options
In March trading on BME’s Derivatives Market came in at 5.5 million contracts, the highest figure during the first quarter. The trading volume in Futures on Stocks and Options on Stocks in March was also the highest for the quarter.
The trading volume for the first quarter totaled 13.9 million contracts, down 24.8% from the same period in 2012. However, trading in Options on Indices and Futures on Indices was up 64.5% and 13.2% respectively.
Warrants and Certificates
The volume of warrants and certificates admitted to trading in 2013 totaled 3,282.
Activity on the market to the end of March totaled €207 million, down 17% from the same period in 2012. The trading volume in March came in at €70 million, down 12.5% from the same month in 2012.
Corporate Debt
The trading volume in March was €153.55 billion, the highest figure during the first quarter, although it was down 6.3% on the previous year. During the first quarter, the trading volume was €406.27 billion, down 46% from the same period in 2012.
New issues in March reached €8.07 billion on the Corporate Debt market, down 85% from the same period last year. During the first quarter new issues reached €44.98 billion, down 64.7% year-on-year.
The outstanding balance at the end of March was €849.07 billion, down 6.3% from the same period a year earlier.
