The Spanish Stock Exchange Traded €45.63 Billion In February On 3.4 Million Trades

Equities

The equity trading volume on the Spanish Stock Exchange to February was €115.62 billion, down 30% from the same period last year, in line with the general trend of low trading volumes shown by all the stock exchanges worldwide. The trading volume in February was €45.63 billion, down 31% from the same month in 2011.

The number of trades to February reached 7.2 million, down 13.5% from the same period last year while in February the figure decreased 10.5% from the same period a year earlier to 3.4 million.

As for the ETF segment, the trading volume to February came in at €331 million, down 53% from the same period last year. In February the trading volume came in at €140 million, down 60% from February 2011.

The number of trades in ETFs to February totaled 5,304, down 44% from the same period in 2011. In February the number of trades reached 2,499, a 40% decrease from the same period in 2011.

Futures and options

In February trading on BME’s Derivatives Market came in at 3.31 million contracts, down 23% from the same period a year earlier. The trading volume to February totaled 8.84 million contracts, down 16.4% from the same period a year earlier.

Warrants and Certificates

The volume of warrants and certificates admitted to trading in 2012 totalled 735, up 22% from the same period last year. Activity on the market to February totaled €170 million, down 43% from the same period in 2011. The trading volume in February came in at €82 million, down 44% from the same month in 2011.

The number of trades to February in this market totaled 39,473, down 28% from a year earlier. In February 19,783 trades were executed, a 25% decrease from the same month in 2011.

Corporate Debt

New issues in February reached €44.28 billion on the Corporate Debt market, more than double the amount recorded for the same period last year (+108%), marking the highest volume in the last 30 months. The trading volume to February totalled €73.75 billion, up 68% from the same period last year. The outstanding balance at the end of February was €883.42 billion, up 3.4% from the same period a year earlier.

In February trading on BME’s Corporate Debt market reached €197.21 billion, down 69.6% from the same month in 2011. The trading volume to February totaled €589.23 billion, down 51.7% from the same period last year.
