The Securities & Investment Institute Receives Royal Charter

Date 16/07/2009

The Securities & Investment Institute (SII) is delighted to announce that an Order of Grant of a Royal Charter was approved by The Queen in Council on Wednesday 8 July 2009, paving the way for the Institute to become a Chartered body and for its members to become personally Chartered.

The SII made a submission through the Privy Council to become the “Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment” and Her Majesty the Queen has approved it.

The SII will formally become a Chartered body once Her Majesty has signed the Charter. This document is now being prepared and is expected to be complete this autumn. The Institute will then be officially known as the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.

Scott Dobbie FSI(Hon), SII Chairman said, “It is very pleasing that the SII, which has built an enviable reputation for professionalism in the sector, has had its position as a pre-eminent professional body endorsed by the award of a Royal Charter. I would like to thank all of our members and corporate members for their commitment to high standards in qualifications, continuing professional development, and in the promotion of integrity and ethics - the foundation stones of our application to the Privy Council.”

Simon Culhane, FSI, SII Chief Executive said “We are delighted that the Institute has been awarded a Royal Charter which is public recognition of both the importance of our industry and the professionalism of those who work in it.”

Ruth Martin, SII Managing Director said “The Institute supports the FSA in its drive for professionalism with its emphasis on higher qualifications, continuous learning and adherence to a code of conduct with teeth. These are precisely the underpinning qualities of the Institute on which our successful application to become a Chartered body was based.”
