The RMX Hannover: RMX Table Potato Index Published

Date 19/10/2006

Yesterday the RMX Hannover published this season’s first Table Potato Index. The Index indicates the current market price level for table potatoes in one number. Announced until the end of the season the index is calculated once a week, accomplished in co-operation with the ZMP.

On the basis of its broad data foundation the RMX Table Potato Index poses as the significant price indicator for the value creation chain. With it market participants can catch up the current price level at one glance. Furthermore the index officiates as settlement basis for the RMX Table Potato Futures.

Composition and calculation according to precise rules

Due to its high importance composition and calculation of the RMX Table Potato Index are carried out after precise instructions. These are an inherent part of the rules and regulations of the RMX. The paragraph at issue reads as follows:

The RMX Table Potato Index represents the average price for 100 kilograms of freely tradable table potatoes of varieties described below and of class 1 under the Trading Classification Regulations (Handelsklassenverordnung) weighted by the number of reports in the individual regions. The prices are recorded ex-station for the regions of Lower Saxony, Bavaria, and Saxony-Anhalt, unwashed and loose, loaded on the means of transportation of the buyer, without statement of turnover tax or other dues.

Part of the index calculation are those varieties
  • that are attributed to the cooking type “predominantly firm cooking” according to the describing list of varieties of the Federal Classification Office (Bundessortenamt),
  • whose seed can be freely procured in the market,
  • which are similar in price to one another.
