Ms. Sopawadee Lertmansachai, Managing Director of the Capital Market Opportunity Center (CMOC) and the Market for Alternative Investment (MAI) disclosed that, as the Capital Market Master Plan stipulated that the development of the capital market needed to have good corporate governance included as one of the proactive measures to develop the potential of the Thai capital market, and to start the year of "Good Corporate Governance", the SET has collaborated with seven other organizations namely the Ministry of Commerce, Revenue Department, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Institute of Certified Accountants and Auditors of Thailand (ICAAT), Listed Companies Association, Association of Securities Companies (ASCO), and Thai Institute of Directors Association (IOD), to formulate a plan to promote the good corporate governance. It is expected that the practices adopted rigorously and continuously. Full supports are obtained for the Ministry of Finance. There is the National Committee on Good Corporate Governance already established and approved by the Cabinet. The committee members are comprised of representatives from 20 organizations concerned.
"For the first activity of this promotion year of "Good Corporate Governance", we'll hold a workshop entitled "Good Corporate Governance: You Manage, We Oversee" on Thursday March 14th, 2002. Related parties to the good corporate governance will be invited to join, for example, the senior executives and the members of the board of companies, in order to have their experienced and views regarding the good corporate governance exchanged. Ideas gathered from the workshop will then be further materialized. The workshop will receive an honor from H.E. Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to preside over, and joined by Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance, Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak, and other members of the Cabinet," Ms. Sopawadee said.
Managing Director of the CMOC and the MAI went on to add that "We are confident that this workshop will urge the executives and various corporation to be active, realize the roles, importance and benefits of good corporate governance, and acknowledge real case studies showing both good and bad examples, all of which the attendants can adapt to suit their situation. Therefore, the chairman, managing director, members of the board, audit committee members of listed companies, the state-owned enterprises, and companies interested in listing on the SET and MAI, SET member companies, the asset management companies, auditors, and financial advisors, should not definitely miss this event."
