The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, and the delegation accompanying him arrived just before 3 p.m., Cyprus time, in Brussels, where at 7 p.m. this afternoon the great effort will begin at the Eurogroup about the loan agreement between Cyprus and the Troika.
Immediately following his arrival in the Belgian capital, President Anastasiades headed for the headquarters of the European Council, where he will hold a private meeting with the President of the European Council, Mr Herman Van Rompuy, and the President of the European Commission, Mr Jose Manuel Barroso. It is expected that during the meeting there will be an initial review of the situation in view of the contacts that will take place later on today.
At 4 p.m., Cyprus time, the meeting among the three will change into a working lunch with the participation of the President of the European Central Bank, Mr Mario Draghi, the Director of the IMF, Mrs Christine Lagarde, the President of Eurogroup, Mr Jeroen Dijsselbloem, and European Commissioner Mr Oli Ren.
Participating at the working lunch from the Cypriot side will also be, among others, the Minister of Finance, Mr Michalis Sarris, and the Government Spokesman, Mr Christos Stylianides.
It is expected that parallel to the contacts of the President of the Republic there will be other moves taking place among other European leaders.
In the meantime, in Nicosia, following instructions by the President of the Republic, the political party leaders have been advised to be present at the Presidential Palace at 5 p.m., Cyprus time. The party leaders, headed by the Acting President of the Republic and President of the House of Representatives, Mr Yiannakis Omirou, will be briefed by President Anastasiades about his contacts until that time, in view of the Eurogroup meeting. |
