In the course of the year 2008, a total of 32.727 TWh worth over EUR 2.4 bil.
were traded through the Prague Energy Exchange (PXE).The traded volume
corresponds to approximately 55% of the total annual consumption in the Czech
Republic, which amounts to approximately 60 TWh.The average daily volume
amounted to 0.13 TWh.
Interesting development was reported in the case of contract CAL-09. The trading
of this contract at the Prague Energy Exchange reported a significant volatility
this year. On 2 January 2008 the contract launched trading at 58 euro per
megawatt hour (MWh) and further development over the next few months followed
the growing trends of other commodities, such as oil and coal. The contract
reached its peak price on 1 July, when one MWh was traded at 90 EUR. This was a
breakpoint in the price development and under the pressure of the economic
reports the contract price fell down, reaching its bottom on 5 December when
contracts were traded at EUR 54.25 per MWh. The last price for this product
reported on 30 December 2008 reached EUR 56.75 per MWh.
