PHILADELPHIA- Nov. 6, 2006 - The Philadelphia Stock Exchange announced
today that equity option volume in October increased 57.18% when
26,510,197 contracts traded compared to the same year-ago period
when 16,865,958 contracts traded. Equity option volume in October
increased 27.52% compared to the previous month when 20,768,135
contracts traded.
The Exchange garnered 15.17 % equity options market share in October
making it the third largest market center in the U.S. for options
for the twelfth month in a row. PHLX market share without ex-dividend
volume was 14.19%.
Sectors index options volume in October increased 3.25% when 592,661
contracts traded compared to the previous month when 574,025 contracts
traded. Volume in sectors index options in October declined 5.46%
compared to same year-ago period when 626,877 contracts traded
Trading volume in the customized and standardized currency options
for October totaled 9,445 contracts, an increase of 5.77% compared
to the previous month when 8,930 contracts traded. Volume in October
decreased 4.54% compared to the same year-ago period when 9,894
contracts traded.
Equity volume for October decreased 17.23% when 40,157,499 shares
traded compared the previous month when 48,516,901 shares traded.
Equity volume for October decreased 54.62% compared to the same
year-ago period when 88,488,204 shares traded.
