The Philadelphia Stock Exchange Announces November Volume - Equity Options Market Share is Up 9.4% compared to November 2002

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange announced today that volume in equity options averaged over 525,000 contracts per day in the month of November, garnering a market share of 14.1%. This represents the fourth consecutive month of market share growth for the PHLX. The 9,977,867 equity options contracts traded in November represent an increase of 39.6% in volume and 9.4% in market share over the same period a year ago. Compared to the previous month, the PHLX's market share grew 1.5%, while volume declined 18.6%.

Equity volume for November reached 230,080,251 shares, down 8.2% compared to the same period last year when 250,758,069 shares traded. Volume decreased 29.9% compared to the previous month when 328,270,606 shares traded.

Sectors index options trading volume in November increased 63% when 277,847 contracts traded compared to the same month last year when 170,488 contracts traded. Sector index option volume decreased 12.3% when compared to the previous month when 317,044 contracts traded.

Trading volume in November in the customized and standardized currency options totaled 31,489 contracts, a 15.4% increase from the previous month when 27,283 contracts traded, and a 12.3 % increase from the same month last year when 28,048 contracts traded.
