The Philadelphia Stock Exchange Announces May Volume - PHLX Shows Across The Board Gains In All Products - Continues As The Third Largest Marketplace For Options

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange announced today that volume in May in all product lines increased compared to the previous month’s trading volume.

Equity option volume in May jumped 24.63% when 24,387,765 contracts traded compared to the previous month when 19,567,378 contracts traded. The Exchange garnered 13.62 % equity options market share in May making it the third largest market centre for options for the seventh month in a row. Market share without ex-dividend volume of 1,203,080 contracts was 12.95 %. Equity option volume increased 142.17% compared to the same year-ago period when 10,070,405 contracts traded.

Volume in sectors index options in May increased 87.11 % when 1,058,319 contracts traded compared to 565,606 contracts traded in the previous month. Sectors index options volume in May increased 169.74% compared to the same year-ago period when 392,342 contracts traded. Equity volume for May increased 35.63% when 79,240,957 to the previous month when 58,422,895 shares traded. Equity volume in May decreased 41.19% compared the same year-ago period when 134,746,323 shares traded.

Trading volume in the customized and standardized currency options for May totaled 17,224 contracts, an increase of 81.73% compared to the previous month when 9,478 contracts traded. Volume increased 4.43% compared to the same year-ago period when 16,494 contracts traded. The PHLX now trades iShares FTSE/Xinhua China 25 Index Fund (FXI SM). This is the first time investors in the United States and abroad will be able to track the performance of the largest and most widely traded Chinese stocks by mirroring the FTSE/Xinhua China 25 Index, which captures the top Chinese stocks available to international investors by total market capitalization.
