The Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX) announced today that 43,587,646 equity option contracts traded in May, an increase of 45.53% compared to the same year-ago period when 29,951,482 contracts traded. Equity option volume in May rose 5.25% compared to last month when 41,422,367 contracts traded.
Market share for equity options in May was 17.65%, up from 15.91% from the previous month. The average daily volume for equity options in May was 2,075,602 contracts.
Volume on the six World Currency Options (WCOs) rose 703.58% in May when 221,144 contracts traded compared to 27,520 contracts traded during the same year-ago period. Volume decreased 26.07% compared to the previous month when 299,108 contracts traded.
Index options volume for May decreased 24.30% when 414,242 contracts traded compared to the same year-ago period when 547,229 contracts traded. Volume in index options in May decreased 0.04% compared to the previous month when 414,427 contracts traded.
Equity volume for May increased 10.01% when 137,846,952 shares traded compared to the same year-ago period when 125,308,868 shares traded. Equity volume for May declines 7.68% compared to the previous month when 149,317,754 shares traded.
