The Philadelphia Stock Exchange announced today that volume in all product lines posted gains for the month of March when compared to the previous month.
Equity option volume in March rose 18.15% when 28,503,350 contracts compared the previous month when 24,124,606 contracts traded. Equity option volume in March rose 39.15% compared to the same year-ago period when 20,483,235 contracts traded.
Market share for equity options in March was 14.08%. PHLX market share in March without ex-dividend volume was 13.28 % when 26,882,194 contracts traded.
Volume on two newly traded World Currency Options (WCOs) rose 37.21% when 17,905 contracts traded compared to 13,049 contracts traded in February. The World Currency Options on the British Pound (XDB) soared 65.18% when 11,419 contracts traded compared to the previous month when 6,913 contracts traded. Trading volume on the World Currency Option on the Euro (XDE) rose 5.7% when 6,486 contracts traded compared to the previous month when 6,136 contracts traded.
Trading volume in the customized and standardized currency options for March totaled 11,940 contracts, an increase of .96% compared to the previous month when 11, 827 contracts traded. Volume in March was up 12.12% compared to the same year-ago period when 10,649 contracts traded.
Sectors index options volume for March increased 21.81% when 540,825 contracts traded compared to the previous month when 443,989 contracts traded. Volume in sectors index options in March declined 12.39% compared to same year-ago period when 617,309 contracts traded.
Equity volume for March increased 6.15% when 103,384,296 shares traded compared the previous month when 97,396,887 shares traded. Equity volume for March increased 39.31% compared to the same year-ago period when 74,212,258 shares traded.
