The Philadelphia Stock Exchange Announces January Volume - “PHLX Starts Year As The Third Largest Marketplace For Options”

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange announced today that equity option volume in January jumped 121.09% when 21,917,015 contracts traded compared to the same period last year when 9,913,288 contracts traded. The Exchange garnered 13.3% equity options market share in January making it the third largest market center for options for the third month in a row. If volumes related to dividend spread trading are disaggregated from the total, PHLX market share falls slightly, to 12.8%. Equity option volume increased 16.86% compared to the previous month when 18,755,025 contracts traded.

Volume in sectors index options in January increased 42.73% when 701,617 contracts traded compared to 491,564 contracts traded in the same year-ago period. Sectors index options volume in January increased 30.71% compared to previous month when 536,781 contracts traded.

Equity volume for January decreased 51.74% when 82,755,970 shares traded compared to the same year-ago period when 171,477,884 shares traded. Equity volume in January increased 15.79% compared to the previous month when 71,470,654 shares traded.

Trading volume in the customized and standardized currency options for January totaled 11,912 contracts, a decrease of 2.05% compared to the same year-ago period when 12,161 contracts traded.
