The Philadelphia Stock Exchange Announces December Volume - “PHLX Is Again The Third Largest Marketplace For Options”

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange announced today that equity option volume in December jumped 91.38% when 18,755,025 contracts traded compared to the same period last year when 9,799,726 contracts traded. Volume was up 22.15% year-over-year. The Exchange garnered 14.89% equity options market share in December making it the third largest market center for options for the second month in a row. Equity option volume decreased 10.79% compared to the previous month when 21,022,937 contracts traded.

Volume in sectors index options in December increased 54.53% when 536,781 contracts traded compared to 347,362 contracts traded in the same year-ago period. Volume increased 18.18% year-over-year. Sectors index options volume in December decreased 6.061% compared to previous month when 571,387 contracts traded.

Equity volume for December decreased 59.83% when 71,470,654 shares traded compared to the same year-ago period when 177,905,429 shares traded. Equity volume in December declined 23.28% compared to the previous month when 93,152,634 shares traded.
Trading volume in the customized and standardized currency options for December totaled 13,499 contracts, a decrease of 4.48% compared to the same year-ago period when 14,132 contracts traded. Volume increased 39.32% compared to the previous month when 9,689 contracts traded
