The AlQuds Index has declined 6% for the year. This drop is relatively insignificant under the current political and economical situations. Also, this drop was insignificant when compared with the performance of other Arab stock exchanges that had enjoyed political and economical stability. It's to be noted that for the year 2000 the AlQuds Index declined 12%.
We'd like to thank all the member brokerage firms for their significant affect in achieving such success under these difficult circumstances. This is an indication of investor's confidence in the stock exchange and it's management and sentiment that we have witness during the last 15 months. We also would here thank the listed companies particularly those that have disclosed their annual reports in timely manner.
This success of the emerging Palestine Securities Exchange under the current circumstances is a healthy sign and important step to attract local and foreign investment in the Palestinian securities sector. The enactment of Securities Law would enhance the ambitions and goals of the PSE.
We hope that the year 2002 would be a year of further successes and achievements for the PSE as well as for the listed companies, the member brokerage firms, and the Palestinian national economy.
