The Options Industry Council (OIC) announced today that 386,428,255 total options contracts traded in May, which is up 2.35 percent compared to last year when 377,539,997 contracts were traded.
Average daily volume in May came in at 17,564,921 contracts, 2.35 percent more than the 17,160,908 contracts in May of last year. Year-to-date volume stood at 1,751,155,921 contracts, just off of last year’s 1,758,289,812 contracts by 0.41 percent.
Equity options volume (options on individual stocks and ETFs) came in at 351,610,399 contracts, up 1.58 percent compared to last May when 346,147,518 contracts were exchanged. Average daily volume for equity options in May came in at 15,982,291 contracts, 1.58 percent more compared to last year’s 15,733,978 contracts. Year-to-date equity options volume stood at 1,588,250,220 contracts, which is 2.33 percent less than the 1,626,089,210 contracts traded at the same point last year.
