The Options Industry Council Announces April Options Volume Rose 16 Percent

The Options Industry Council (OIC) announced today that 371,147,433 total options contracts were traded in April, which is up 16.11 percent compared to last year when 319,640,606 contracts were traded. This marks the best April volume on record.

Average daily volume in April came in at 16,870,338 contracts, 5.56 percent more than the 15,982,030 contracts in April of last year. Year-to-date volume stood at 1,364,727,666 contracts, just off of last year’s 1,380,749,815 contracts by 1.16 percent.

Equity options volume (options on individual stocks and ETFs) came in at 337,754,380 contracts, up 14.32 percent compared to last April when 295,433,916 contracts were exchanged. Average daily volume for equity options in April came in at 15,352,472 contracts, 3.93 percent more compared to last year’s 14,771,696 contracts. Year-to-date equity options volume stood at 1,236,639,821 contracts, which is 3.38 percent less than the 1,279,941,692 contracts traded at the same point last year.
