The opening ceremony of the Shanghai International Center for Communication and Cooperation between Exchanges (the Center for short) was held at the 11th Lujiazui Forum on June 14, 2019.
Attending the opening ceremony were Wu Qing, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, and relevant officials of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Financial Work (SBFW), Shanghai Municipal Administration of Social Organizations (SASO), the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) and the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE). The directors and supervisors of the Center, and representatives of domestic and overseas exchanges and relevant financial institutions witnessed the ceremony.
The Center is a private non-enterprise entity jointly initiated by the SSE, the SZSE and the Shanghai Stock Exchange Foundation. Its establishment has received great supports from the CSRC and the Shanghai Government. The Center aims to facilitate the pragmatic cooperation between domestic and overseas capital markets by promoting the communication and exchanges among exchanges and relevant market institutions in the world, especially those along the “Belt & Road”. As an international platform initiated and established by the domestic exchanges, the Center will offer great support for the capital market to serve the “Belt & Road” Initiative, and it will become an important part for building Shanghai into the International Financial Center.
The Center has gone through a process before put into effect. In 2017, then SSE Chairman Wu Qing put forward an idea of establishing the mechanism and platform to strengthen the communication and cooperation between exchanges in different countries after being elected the Chairman of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE). Under the instruction and promotion of SBFW (its competent entity) and SASO (where it is registered), the Center was officially registered and established on December 25, 2018 after one year of preparation. Its office locates at Astor House Hotel, a historical building with both classical and opening-up features.
Thanks to the support of all sectors of society, the Center will practice its tenet, strengthen the platform construction, and organize seminars, information sharing, project researches, personnel training and other activities related to the exchanges and the capital market, thus serving the financing on the markets along the “Belt & Road” and boosting the ushering-in and going-global of the domestic capital market.
